My research moves beyond the traditional economic framework of voluntary exchange to explore the dark side of economics in a state of nature, where the absence of property rights leads agents to engage not only in production but also in appropriation—through theft, raiding, and warfare. My main work brings modern network theory to classical questions of conflict and state formation.
